Export tariff comparison now runs on your own house | PredBat

Most export tariff comparisons run against an average household, and yours is not one. Export Compare, added on 1 September, plans export tariffs against your own recorded generation and consumption across five sampled days, and reports each result as an amount of money in words rather than a rate you are left to interpret. Why an average profile ranks the wrong tariff What an export tariff is worth depends on when you have surplus energy and how much of it you can move. A house that exports a large midday surplus and a house that holds charge and exports into the evening peak will get different answers out of the same tariff, and can genuinely have different best tariffs. A generic profile cannot tell those two houses apart, so it ranks tariffs for a household nobody lives in. That is fine for a rough sense of the market and no use at all for deciding whether to switch. What the comparison actually runs The comparison plans each tariff across five sampled days of your own recorded data, with the engine's fast mode switched off, so those days are planned in full rather than derived from a shorter run. That is slower than the approximation used elsewhere, and it is the right trade here: the whole question is which of two similar tariffs comes out ahead, and an approximation that blurs the difference does not answer it. Because it uses your history, the comparison is only as good as the history behind it. A system that has been running for a few days has less to go on than one with a season of data. Reading the result Results are stated in words, as money back or money to pay, rather than as a signed number. Export credit is held internally as a negative value, and a bare minus sign in front of a figure reads as exactly the opposite of what it means: the tariff that pays you the most would appear to be the one costing you the most. The ranking is a starting point for a decision, not the decision. Export rates are one term of a supply agreement, and the import side, standing charges and exit fees all sit outside what this page models.
